Secret Mountain Koh Phangan

Secret Mountain Koh Phangan – Deep House Above the Jungle
Most of the island’s parties happen at sea level — on beaches, in forest clearings, at the edge of the water. Secret Mountain goes the other way. Up a jungle road, past the last guesthouse, past the point where most scooters start to slow down, there’s a wooden deck suspended above the canopy with a view that takes in the whole arc of the island’s coastline. The music playing there is deep, patient, and Berlin-influenced. The sunset hits like it was designed for this exact spot.
Secret Mountain is not a club. It’s not a festival stage. It’s one of those rare places where the setting, the food, the music, and the crowd arrive at the same conclusion simultaneously: this is exactly where we should be.
About Secret Mountain
Secret Mountain is an adults-only (21+) open-air lounge, restaurant, and DJ space perched in the jungle highlands of Koh Phangan. The venue is built from natural materials — reclaimed wood, woven rattan, stone — on a hillside platform that opens onto a panoramic view of the island’s coastline, hills, and the Gulf of Thailand beyond.
It runs as a vegan and seafood restaurant from 4 PM, transitioning through sunset into an evening DJ session that continues until midnight. The music programming draws a deliberate line between what happens here and what happens at the island’s beach clubs: this is deep house, melodic techno, and organic electronic music played at the volume of a conversation, not a festival.
The influence is European — specifically Berlin’s more considered underground: the kind of music that rewards attention, that builds slowly, that sounds better as the evening gets darker and the stars come out

The Music
Deep House. Melodic Techno. Organic Electronic. Berlin influence.
Resident DJs play every evening from 4 PM, curating a continuous arc from warm afternoon grooves into deeper, more textural sounds after dark. The programming is deliberately unhurried — no hard drops, no DJ ego, no commercial EDM crossover. Just music chosen to work with the views, the open air, and the natural light as it changes.
Special events bring guest DJs for themed nights and full moon celebrations — the elevated location makes full moon evenings at Secret Mountain something genuinely different from the beach-level experience. The full moon rises over the Gulf and the music opens up to meet it.
The Space
The deck at Secret Mountain is the centrepiece — an outdoor wooden platform above the treeline with unobstructed panoramic views of Koh Phangan’s hills, jungle canopy, and the Gulf of Thailand coastline. The construction is entirely natural materials: reclaimed timber, rattan screens, stone floors worn smooth. No neon. No artificial fog machines. No laser rigs.
At sunset — which from this elevation is something you feel as much as see — the deck fills with a crowd that tends to be quieter and more attentive than the beach party crowd. People sit, eat, order drinks, and watch the light change. Then the music gets darker and the dancing starts.
The pool is also available (50 THB entry) for those arriving earlier in the afternoon.
Food & Drink
Secret Mountain runs a full restaurant menu alongside the music programme — vegan dishes and locally caught seafood, prepared with the same care as the sound. The kitchen operates from 4 PM. It’s worth eating here: the combination of food, view, and soundtrack at golden hour is one of the better experiences on the island.
Vegetarian and vegan options are extensive. Seafood is sourced locally. The menu changes seasonally.

How to Get There
Secret Mountain is accessible by scooter or 4×4 taxi — there is no regular songthaew service up the mountain road.
By scooter: Head inland from the main Baan Tai / Sri Thanu area and follow the road uphill. The route includes a section of steep dirt track — manageable on a standard automatic scooter but take it slowly. Signs begin appearing as you get close. Park at the top, by the entrance.
By taxi: A 4×4 taxi or private songthaew from anywhere on the island’s south coast will get you there. Ask your guesthouse to arrange one — the road requires something with decent clearance.
The drive itself is worth it. The jungle road up to Secret Mountain is one of the most scenic approaches on the island — dense canopy, sudden elevation changes, the first glimpse of the view as you clear the treeline.
Tips for Your Visit
Arrive at 4 PM and stay for sunset. The transition from golden hour to darkness here is the centrepiece of the whole experience. Arrive early enough to get a seat on the front of the deck.
Eat before the music gets loud. The restaurant is best experienced in the pre-sunset window when it’s still calm enough to actually taste the food. By 7 PM the focus shifts to music and dancing.
Dress for the evening. At altitude, Secret Mountain gets a breeze after dark that beach venues don’t. A light layer from 9 PM onwards is not unnecessary.
Go on a clear night. On overcast evenings the view disappears. The full effect — coastline, stars, the Gulf stretching to the horizon — requires clear skies. Worth checking before you make the trip.
Bring your own transport or pre-arrange return. The mountain road after midnight on a scooter requires a clear head. If you plan to drink, arrange a taxi back in advance.
The Secret Mountain Sound vs. Koh Phangan’s Other Venues
Most of Koh Phangan’s electronic music scene operates at beach level, in jungle clearings, or in open-air clubs. Secret Mountain is the island’s only elevated hilltop electronic music venue. The difference in atmosphere is significant:
No sand underfoot. No boat to catch. A full restaurant. Panoramic views from a height that changes how the music sounds and how the night feels. It attracts a slightly older, more European crowd — people who have done the Full Moon Party and the jungle festivals and are looking for something with a different kind of depth.
If Berghain had a terrace somewhere in the mountains of Koh Phangan, it would look something like this.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Secret Mountain only for adults? Yes — strictly 21+. This is enforced at the entrance.
Can I visit just for the view without staying for the party? Yes. The restaurant and deck are open from 4 PM. You can come for food and sunset without staying for the full evening DJ session, though most people find it very difficult to leave once the music starts.
What’s the best day to go? Any clear-sky evening is worth it, but special event nights — particularly Full Moon parties and themed nights with guest DJs — are the peak experience. Check phangan.events for the calendar.
Is there parking at Secret Mountain? Yes — scooter parking at the top of the road, right at the entrance.
How long is the drive from Thong Sala? Approximately 20–30 minutes by scooter, depending on your starting point. The road up the mountain adds another 10 minutes.
Is the road safe on a scooter? In daylight and on a sober head, yes — with care on the steep dirt section. At night, after a full evening of music and cocktails, arrange a taxi. The road doesn’t forgive inattention in the dark.
